Accounting Dimensions
Cost Centers
Go to: Financials → Setup → Cost Center
Accounting dimensions let you analyze the same account balance by responsibility or purpose. In ERPX, use Cost Centers for ongoing parts of the organization and Projects for time-limited work.
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Cost Center Name | User-facing name |
| Cost Center Code | Short reporting code |
| Parent Cost Center | Parent in the Cost Center tree |
Use Tree View to add a child at the correct level. Cost Centers can be selected on invoices, journals, payments, stock documents, and reports where supported.
Choose the right dimension
Project and Cost Center are separate dimensions:
| Dimension | Best use |
|---|---|
| Cost Center | Ongoing department, branch, function, or operating unit |
| Project | Time-limited initiative, contract, job, or implementation |
A transaction can carry both. See Projects for instructions on creating and managing the Project selected on a transaction.
Use dimensions on a transaction
- Select the correct account for the transaction
- Choose a Cost Center when the amount belongs to a department, branch, or operating unit
- Choose a Project when the amount belongs to a specific job or initiative
- Save and review the dimensions before approval
- Use the same dimension filters when comparing reports
Changing a Cost Center or Project on a saved financial document may require confirmation. After an authorized change, review the document’s Accounting Ledger and the affected report.
