Territories

Go to: CRM → Setup → Territories

A territory is a slice of your market — a country, a region, a branch, or a business unit. Territories are arranged as a tree, so a broad region can contain narrower ones and reports can roll numbers up the hierarchy.

Territories are used on leads, opportunities, prospects, sales team members, and customers — and as a filter when importing recipients into a campaign.

Structure

Only nodes marked Is Group can have children. Leaf nodes are what you actually assign to leads, opportunities, and customers.

A default tree — All Territories with North, South, East, and West Region — is created the first time the module is used. Rename these to match your market rather than starting over.

Fields

FieldWhat it means
Territory NameRequired. Must be unique within your organisation
Parent TerritoryWhere this node sits in the tree. Empty means root level
Territory ManagerThe user accountable for this region
Is GroupTick if this territory will contain child territories
Is ActiveUntick to retire a territory without deleting it
DescriptionWhat the territory covers

Creating a territory

Open the screen

Go to CRM → Setup → Territories and click New.

Name it

Enter a Territory Name. Duplicate names are rejected.

Place it in the tree

Pick a Parent Territory — it must be marked Is Group. Tick Is Group yourself if you plan to nest territories below this one.

Assign a manager

Select the Territory Manager. This is a user in your organisation, not an employee record.

Add targets (optional)

Open the Targets tab and add one row per item group you want to plan for.

Save

Territory targets

The Targets tab sets a sales goal for the territory, broken down by item group and fiscal year.

ColumnWhat it means
Item GroupWhich product family the target applies to
Fiscal YearThe year the target belongs to
Target QtyUnits you expect to sell
Target AmountValue you expect to sell
DistributionA monthly distribution template that spreads the yearly figure across the twelve months

Item Group, Fiscal Year, and Distribution are all required on every target row.

Editing, moving, and deleting

Moving a territory under a different parent re-parents every descendant with it. A territory cannot be its own parent, cannot move under one of its own descendants, and cannot be deleted while it has children — work from the bottom of the branch upwards, or untick Is Active to retire it while keeping its history.

Everyday tips

  1. Mirror your actual sales structure, not the map — if two cities are worked by one seller, one territory is enough.
  2. Keep the tree shallow. Three levels (All → Region → City) covers most organisations.
  3. Set the Territory Manager on every leaf so ownership questions have an answer.
  • Sales Teams — sellers, each optionally tied to a territory
  • Reports — pipeline and lead analysis filtered by territory
